An Update From The Other Side

The last time I wrote a blog post I was a pledge almost at the end of my pledging period. Today I am writing as an active sister of Alpha Pi Phi and this journey has only gotten better. I thought I knew what I was in for but in my wildest dreams I could not imagine a sisterhood like this. Joining a sorority requires you to make a consuming commitment to your sisters this being the most rewarding experience anyone could ever participate in.

In the last eight months I have been able to create lifelong friendships and be a part of something so amazing. The late night talks, movie dates and supper club are only a few things that my sisters and I enjoy. When I’m having a bad day there will always be a sister offering her support. When I’m having a good day I have my own cheering squad. My Delta pledge class is honestly my rock I couldn’t imagine life without those 10 amazing ladies. Fate made us sisters but choice made us friends.

Fall recruitment 2013 was a blast before we knew it our sisterhood grew with 14 new ladies. One who I am lucky enough to call my little, it’s every sorority girl dream to get a little and I can’t express how happy I am. I also am super excited to announce that I got a twin, when your family grows it is the most exciting feeling!

Winter Recruitment is around the corner and I highly encourage you to come out and see what Alpha Pi Phi is about! We would love to meet you!

Amethyst pearls and sorority girls

My name is Alexa and I am an active Sister of Alpha Pi Phi Sorority. I was initiated into Alpha class and have fallen in love with Alpha Pi Phi and how much it has flourished over the past few years. I also have the pleasure of being the Sorority’s External Programming Officer for this upcoming 2013-2014 academic term! I decided to write this blog post over the summer as I know rush is fast approaching and many girls wonder what it is like to be a part of a Sorority in general and how they can get involved with Alpha Pi Phi. Alpha Pi Phi Sorority was established at Carleton University in 2009. The Beta chapter here at Brock was then founded by five amazing women who started this Chapter through hard work and dedication. They were committed to continuing the tradition of love, loyalty, and friendship as well as upholding the values that the Founding Mothers have established that stand as the pillars of our organization. Alpha Pi Phi also has its Gamma Chapter located in Kingston, Ontario. Having three Chapters in four short years is an amazing accomplishment and our Sorority continues to grow. I feel so privileged to not only have my Sisters here at Brock but I also have Sisters throughout Canada! Being involved with a national Sorority not only allows me to grow and seek support within my own University experience but it also allows me to have support and great networking for the rest of my life. Before deciding to rush in my first year I will admit that I was nervous and uncertain about Greek life in general. I thought about the stereotypes of Sorority women and how the media has portrayed these girls and wasn’t sure if I would be accepted. One very special aspect of this Sorority is that Alpha Pi Phi has no limit on what kind of girl can rush or how many girls get a bid. We look for girls who uphold the values set by the Founding Mothers and Sisters and who can get along with all of our diverse personalities. In short, there is no one right way to classify a girl in a Sorority. A Sorority girl has strength in herself, love for herself, friendship for all, and loyalty for those that love her. I cannot explain to anyone enough how much Alpha Pi Phi has enhanced my life. The bonds I have created with these lovely ladies are something that I know will last. This is not something that only lasts for university, it is a lifelong bond. I encourage all who are interested to check out our facebook page, website, and contact our Membership Development Officer to get more information on Alpha Pi Phi, the Classiest National Sorority. We would love to meet you! Phi , Sister Alexa K. Pledging Alpha Pi Phi: Jessica’s Story

I went through a period last semester where I questioned whether or not I was completely happy. Was I truly satisfied with the life I had created at Brock within the last year and a half? The answer was no, so after some creative Facebook creeping searching I found Alpha Pi Phi.
I wish I could say it was smooth sailing from there on however I tried to talk my self out of this a million times. After attending my first Rush event I knew I found the missing piece of the puzzle. The girls were so sweet and friendly I could not believe it. I was scared to Rush because I thought I wouldn’t fit in to the typical “sorority girl” image (which by the way does not exist outside movies) but these feelings disappeared the day we cleaned our adopted road. This event showed me that these girls not only talked the talk but also walked the walk.
On January 25, 2013 I pledged Alpha Pi Phi with 12 other wonderful ladies creating Delta Class. The last few weeks have been life changing and dream like, as I get to know all the sisters I have truly confirmed that this was meant to be. Getting to know my Big Kim has been fantastic and I already can’t imagine life without her. I look forward to all the memories we are going to create. It is amazing to know that each and everyone one of the sisters is someone I look up to and admire.

Pledging is the best decision I have ever made and I have absolutely no regrets about a single thing. When I get my letters in the near future I will officially be a part of a life changing organization and have more sisters than I will know what to do with
Jess and her Big Kim :)
